This design collaboration takes inspiration from Japanese design and fabrication, and Mid-Century Modern outdoor furniture. The sofa is designed keeping in mind the Boston area renter lifestyle of moving every year according to the September 1st lease cycle which has shaped the city.
The sofa is made from walnut with cedar supports. It can be split into two 3.5 ' sections, or connected together as one 7 ' piece depending on room size and use. Various sketches were drawn up and vetted, and the design continued to evolve as it was made. The materials for the sofa were sourced in New England, and constructed in Cambridge, MA.
